Born in Moscow in 2003, Toma grew up moving between Russian cities (Kolchugino, Lukhovitsy) before her family relocated to the Netherlands when she was only six. She obtained her photography degree in 2019 and now studies art history in Amsterdam while working as a multimedia artist and documentary photographer.
Her project "Control Refresh" documents teenagers across Russia and Eastern Europe, examining how political events shape young lives. She traveled through small Russian towns between 2021-2023, contacting teens via social media and staying with them to photograph their daily lives. Her work includes snowy landscapes, abandoned buildings, urban sprawl. It's a visual documentation of post-Soviet life and landscapes.
